Year 5

I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome all the Year 5 children and families into our class this year. We hope that you find all the information you need here but if you want to find out more, please check out our school Facebook page and the class and whole school stories on Class Dojo. As always, we are here to make this a memorable year for your child, so never hesitate to contact us and let’s work together to “Grow with God”.

Staffing

Class Teacher: Miss R Rothney

Teaching Assistant: Mrs C Reardon

PPA Cover: Mrs T Reams

Homework

Homework will be given out on a Wednesday, and is due in the following Monday. In Year 5, this will include a Maths and English focused activity each week. Further to this, the children have access to TTRockstars.

Spellings

Spellings will be handed out on Wednesday (with homework), and they will be tested the following Monday.

Reading Books

In Year 5, children are encouraged to read appropriate novels and non-fiction books regularly, some of these may be banded scheme books and others may be free reading. They are given time 15 minutes each day to read at school and we aim for this to be matched at home. They should record this in their school diary and aim to have this signed by a parent once a week.

Worship and Reflection Areas

We have a dedicated worship and reflection area in class. Here the children are encouraged to spend time reflecting upon the teachings of Jesus Christ and consider how they fulfil each of our Christian values both at school and at home. In Year 5, the children also begin to plan and lead worship and in this area, have access to the resources they need to do so.

Before and After School

At the beginning of the school day, before registration (8:45am – 8:55am depending on arrival time) the children will have different maths, reading and SPAG activities to complete. These are focused on revision and practising the skills they have learnt previously.

School finishes at 3:30pm. In Year 5, children can either be collected from the classroom door or, with written permission, walk home.

General Reminders

  • Our PE days are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure the children have the appropriate kit for each day. During the summer term, Year 5 will also be swimming.
  • The children will also need their own water bottle in school, which they have access to all day. Please make sure that they are clearly labelled.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us, either after school when collecting your child, on Class Dojo, or by arranging a more formal appointment with the school office.

We know that by working together your child with continue to shine and “Grow with God”.
