Hello and Welcome to Year 3. I am Mrs Strahan and I am the Year 3 class teacher.

Year 3 is all about exciting new challenges as the children move up from KS1 to KS2. It’s a year full of hands-on learning, fun activities, and plenty of opportunities for the children to explore, grow, and thrive. We make sure every day is full of engaging lessons that spark curiosity and inspire creativity.

Homework

Each week, the children will bring home a piece of work to consolidate the weeks' learning. Homework will be sent home on a Friday and collected and checked the following Thursday.  In addition, children are encouraged to learn a set of spellings which will focus on the spelling rule practised each week. Spelling checks will take place on Thursdays. It is important that children practise their times tables regularly. This can be done on TTRockstars. Numbots is another engaging, online platform for children to practise their addition and subtraction skills. Login details for both TTRockstars and Numbots can be found in the back of the children's reading records. 

Reading

We are looking forward to developing the children’s love of reading this year. Building fluency is a skill that we will aim to develop over the year. Children will read in school daily and we ask that they read their home reading book at least 4 times each week at home too. Please sign the reading record when your child has read. When a child finishes their book, they will be able to change it.

Children will also have opportunities to enjoy a 'reading for pleasure' book in school. This is self-chosen from our class library and can be changed when the children are ready. 

General Information

• Our PE days are Mondays and Fridays. Please ensure the children have the appropriate kit for both days. Children must be able to remove or cover ear piercings independently. 
• The children will also need their own water bottle in school, which they have access to all day. Please make sure that they are clearly labelled. We ask that only plain water is brought into school.

Worship and Reflection Areas

In our classroom, we have a special area for worship and reflection. In this space, children are encouraged to take time to think about the teachings of Jesus Christ and think about how they embody our Christian values both at school and at home.

Before and After School

At the beginning of the school day (before registration 8:45 - 8:55), the children will have various morning tasks to complete. These are focused on editing and improving their work and practising the skills they have learnt previously. 

School finishes at 3:30pm.
