Year 6
Welcome to Team Year Six. I am Mrs Barras, the class teacher.
Year Six is such an incredibly special year, as we reach the dizzy heights at the top of the school and prepare our young people for the transition to Secondary Education. We strive to ensure that the children feel confident to tackle their end-of-Year assessments, whilst providing a curriculum which stimulates enthusiasm and a love for learning.
Year Six is a year where everyone has an opportunity to shine.
Staffing
Class Teacher: Mrs Barras
SATs
The 2025 KS2 SATs will take place in the week commencing Monday 11th May 2026. The tests will take place over four days and more information will be available nearer the time.
Homework
Homework will be given out on a Tuesday. In Year 6, this will include a mathematical activity that focusses on their revision of skills in addition to English, handwriting and spelling activities. Additionally, each term, the children will be given a topic project to be completed over several weeks and presented to the class. Further to this, children have access to various websites, including: TTRockstars, Prodigy Maths and Letterjoin.
Reading Books
In Year 6, children are encouraged to read appropriate novels and non-fiction books daily. All children have the opportunity to read to an adult several times each week. The expectation is that the children also read at home for 20 minutes per day. They should record this in their school diary daily and have it signed by a parent at least once a week.
Worship and Reflection Areas
We have a dedicated worship and reflection area in class. Here, children are encouraged to spend time reflecting on the units covered within the Religious Education curriculum and to consider how they fulfil each of our Christian values both at school and at home. In Year 6, our students are given the opportunity to plan and lead worship.
Before and After School
At the beginning of the school day, before registration (8:45am – 8:55am depending on arrival time), the children will have various morning tasks to complete. These are focused on revision and practising the skills they have learnt previously.
School finishes at 3:30pm. In Year 6, children can either be collected from the classroom door or, with written permission, walk home.
General Reminders
- Our PE days are Monday and Thursday. Please ensure the children have the appropriate kit for each day.
- The children will also need their own water bottle in school, which they have access to all day. Please make sure that they are clearly labelled.
